Great news for film lovers
Arnolfini is developing a new direction for its cinema programme and will work in collaboration with Watershed with the aim of delivering a distinctive 'Cinema for the Arts' for Bristol and the South West.
Watershed’s Head of Programme Mark Cosgrove will work closely with Arnolfini to programme their cinema screen as well as the three screens at Watershed.
Future programme ideas include a complete retrospective of acclaimed Spanish director, Pedro Almodovar at Arnolfini to accompany his latest award-winning feature film, Volver at Watershed. This is just one example of the cross-venue links that are being made through the new programming partnership in what is a real opportunity to enhance the cinema-going experience for Bristol audiences.
“Working in collaboration will help to develop and differentiate the film culture in Bristol. We want to make film a more important part of Arnolfini’s programme- to develop a distinct profile for Arnolfini’s cinema. As a mixed arts centre, the context for film here is very different from Watershed, which is primarily a first-run cinema. By working in partnership, it will be possible to programme seasons together. Arnolfini also provides the platform for more in-depth critical examination of the history of film as well as links with other art-forms.“ Tom Trevor Director, Arnolfini
