Arnolfini Live brings together artists who use performance, film and sculpture to explore dark landscapes of sexuality and desire. In this season artists use real natural environments against claustrophobic inner spaces. Using ideas stolen from fairy stories, fairgrounds, forests and Victoriana the artists reappraise the contemporary feminine in a series of shows, installations and residencies.

"Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
It's a long dark path that leads to the answer: old fairy tales state the unthinkable as mothers grow older while daughters grow into their own. Intimately staged, the cycle plays out here against a backdrop of sylvan video imagery and disconcerting audio samples. Exploring the dark landscapes and imagery that surround the idea of the wicked step-mother, this premiere of The Long Dark Path is the first venture into live performance for artist and writer Folake Shoga. Produced in collaboration with her daughter, the artist candidly faces some uncomfortable truths.
