Severnside Composers Alliance launches a new series of concerts at Arnolfini, collaborating with the Bristol Ensemble to present a compelling selection of challenging new string quartets by Alliance members. The concert also features the luminous textures and pulsing rhythms of the 5th Quartet of Philip Glass, a contemporary classic of the string quartet medium.
There will be a free introductory talk before this event, on 25 November at 7.00pm.
Severnside Composers Alliance was formed in 2003 by several composers based in the Bristol and Bath area, under the leadership of Sulyen Caradon, with the aim of promoting performances of their own music, and stimulating a wider interest in the composition and performance of new music in the region. Members include David Bedford, Raymond Warren, Steven Kings, John Pitts, David Simmonds, Andre Shlimon, Jean Hasse and Frank Harvey. The new chair, Jolyon Laycock, was Music and Dance coordinator at Arnolfini from 1979 to 1990.
