A monolithic double bill featuring two true international masters of sculptured noise, deep rumbling and artful sonic contrast.
The music of Melbourne-born Ben Frost is vast, violent and utterly sublime: it unfurls magnificently across rooms with a singular snowbound beauty (he dwells in Iceland), but also lurks at the ear with wolf-like menace. Last year's album By The Throat (Bedroom Community) saw circles of dubstep, classical, sound art and metal overlap in their praise. Frost has recently premièred an ambitious new score for Tarkovsky's Solaris in collaboration with his mentor Brian Eno.
Canadian Tim Hecker works at the junction of melody, white noise and textural dissonance, creating electronic song/sound pieces that break-and-enter the consciousness through both low frequency physical pressure and a certain chaotic serenity. With his new single Apondalifa, and previous releases on Kranky, Fat Cat and Room40, Hecker has reached and rewired electronic, rock and avant-heads alike.
Ekoplekz is a shadowy Bristolian who favours primitive analogue device and a spontaneous improvised approach to composition.
Inbetween Time Festival is produced by Inbetween Time Productions in collaboration with Arnolfini.
Inbetween Time Festival is supported by Arts Council England, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, University of Bristol and Bristol City Council.
