Arnolfini - est 1961

Our Exhibition Producer, Kiara Corales, recently visited Fragments of Joy, the first solo exhibition by Bristol-based artist Betty Sargent at Pound Arts, Corsham.

Betty is a member of Art In Motion (AIM), our current Creatives in Residence at Arnolfini. Through AIM’s supportive studio environment and commitment to championing learning-disabled and neurodivergent artists, Betty has developed a distinctive artistic practice rooted in curiosity, experimentation and joy. In her review, Kiara touches upon the confidence, experimentation and care evident throughout Fragments of Joy, highlighting how Betty transforms everyday materials and personal memories into richly textured collages and 3-dimensional works that resonate with warmth and curiosity.

Reflecting on the exhibition, Kiara writes:

At its heart, Fragments of Joy presented an artist driven by curiosity, discovery and an unwavering devotion to making. Betty speaks of her practice with infectious joy and pleasure: ‘I just love it, I could make and crochet all day,’ a sentiment that radiates through every aspect of her work.

While Fragments of Joy has now come to a close, audiences can experience Betty’s work at The Everyday, a group exhibition by AIM artists at Pound Arts, open until 6 June 2026.

We encourage visitors to discover Betty’s work alongside her fellow AIM artists and celebrate the vibrant community that continues to nurture and champion learning-disabled and neurodivergent creatives.
