The Shui Mo (수묵; 墨 絵; 水墨) Ensemble
Dedicated to performing new music on East Asian traditional instruments, The Shui Mo (수묵; 墨 絵; 水墨) Ensemble will present a series of newly composed and improvised solo works, created in response to Rinko Kawauchi’s exhibition. These will take place in our gallery spaces at intervals throughout the evening.
Sonia Levy and Lucy A. Sames
Dark, Sloshing is an audio work by Sonia Levy and Lucy A. Sames created in response to the heavily industrialised and neglected riparian worlds of Silverthorne Lane in East Bristol.
The composition weaves field recordings and voice, moving above and below water as it follows canals, bridges, electric grids, train lines, and highways. It reveals muted ecologies that interrogate the altered dynamics of earthly and urban processes, reflecting the city’s imperial, infrastructural, and ecological entanglements. Commissioned by Gingko Projects, Dark, Sloshing forms part of a larger project led by artists Rachael Champion and Jonathan Trayte.
ATTIC Teas
In our Reading Room we have invited Annie from ATTIC Teas to guide three wonderful tea experiences that will nourish the body, soothe the mind and excite the spirit. Tea has long held a sacred place in the heart of Eastern culture. ATTIC’s Breathe and Brew sessions use grounding breath to connect to the powerful centering effects of the tea’s nutrients. You will then have an opportunity to sit in quiet contemplation and enjoy a sense of stillness so dearly missing for many of us in our daily lives.
The space asks for nothing from you, just to ‘be’ in whatever way you feel comfortable. No previous experience necessary. Sessions will start at 6.45pm and 7.30pm and 8.15pm (for up to 15 participants at a time).
