Follow Mother Deer on her quest to bring the sunshine back to the forest in this sensory feast of storytelling full of mischief, wonder and magic. A family show for ages 3+.

Mother Deer is a beautiful and playful show for family audiences that captures imaginations and inspires deeper thinking about our environment, animals and our place in the natural world.

Based on an ancient Northern European folk tale, Mother Deer blends aerial acrobatics, dance and sensory theatre.

Through light, shadow, live music and sound, Mother Deer reminds us of our deep connection to the natural world and indigenous land-based festivals. It encourages the audience to explore natural environments with confidence and curiosity ,with a focus on playing together in nature.

This family show is created and performed by Acrobatic Adventures and commissioned by Circomedia with support from the Leche Trust and the Garrick Charitable Trust. The show was inspired by The Lost Words by Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane published by Penguin and includes music from the album Spell Songs.

Acrobatic Adventures

Acrobatic Adventures explores what it means to be alive through sensory theatre & circus physicality. We believe circus has a unique capacity to evoke a visceral longing for movement in our audiences, which fosters connection & well-being. Our work is playful, dynamic & rooted in nature.

Audience Quotes

“So much trust in the magnitude of feeling carrying the story, in the stripped back set and fantastic lighting, in the deeply moving music, in the use of children to reset the stage. What a privilege to get to see it in all its majesty.”

“Bold and brave to take its time and get us to slow down and listen rather than make something whizzy to grab our attention. V clever.”

“Enchanting, reconnection with solstice, nature, ancient culture. Welcoming and gentle audience participation with children. Simplicity. Being so close to the stage was special for the children.”
