Arnolfini - est 1961

Transmissions is a participatory experience created by Frances Bossom as part of her PhD research into gallery education at Arnolfini. This three day event goes behind the scenes, exploring how staff organised and transformed learning and engagement at Arnolfini, pre-internet (up until 1996).

The exhibition features archive documents from Arnolfini’s Records Collection and new art works made with analogue facsimile technology. Visitors are invited to explore Bossom’s research, make land line phone calls, make a paper cup telephone, and attempt transmitting their own fax with analogue fax machines.

Playfully exploring archives, memory and old media, Transmissions considers how Arnolfini’s gallery education practices have transformed over the last fifty years.
