Bridges for Communities

Bridges for Communities is a Bristol-based charity that connects people of different cultures and faiths in order to build understanding and promote social cohesion in the city.

Through it’s wide range of programmes such as Peace Feasts (pictured above) and School Linking, Bridges creates spaces where people who may not ordinarily meet can do so. It also has a particular emphasis on welcoming newcomers, and runs a series of innovative projects for refugees and asylum seekers such as b.friend, Refulingua, Walk With Me and a women’s Craft Collective.

Bridges for Communities first partnered with Arnolfini in 2020 with Hassan Hajjaj’s exhibition ‘The Path’, producing a photography exhibition that explored themes of identity, culture and story.

In 2021 Bridges is working with Arnolfini on Walk With Me, a programme offering one-to-one walking partners for refugees and asylum seekers in Bristol. The aim is to promote regular exercise, to benefit physical and mental health, and provide an opportunity to practice spoken English, meet someone new and explore the neighbourhood or new places, including the spaces at Arnolfini.

The Bristol School Linking project, which aims to build relationships between children across our diverse city, will bring together primary schools to connect and reach across perceived difference using the spaces at Arnolfini.
