Creating a visual campaign for Arnolfini’s relaunch

A guest blog post from Josh Matthews of Taxi Studio, our friends who designed our eye catching relaunch campaign.

Arnolfini were delighted to work with Taxi Studio to help us make noise around our relaunch. Below, we hear from Taxi Studio’s Marketing Executive Josh Matthews who lead on the campaign:

I’d like to share some of the thinking behind the campaign you’ve seen on leaflets, billboards, bookmarks and more.

A bit of background: We were approached by Arnolfini to support them with a campaign for the relaunch of their exhibition programme… and of course we jumped at the chance!

As the majority of previous communications from Arnolfini were specific to their exhibitions, our challenge was to a create a broader brand campaign to refresh people’s perception of Arnolfini in and beyond the local community, all the while providing the organisation with a robust visual platform for all future brand-led activity.

So we got our thinking caps on…

The campaign’s lead message of WE’RE OPEN is a reflection of Arnolfini’s open mind and also the city it calls home.

By wrapping the message around the iconic corner on Bush House, Arnolfini’s home for several decades and recognised by many as a “cultural magnet” for the city’s different artistic and social groups, we were able to draw emphasis to two messages in one… WE’RE OPEN and REOPEN.

With the perfect backdrop now in place, the campaign delivers vibrant visual disruption through colour ways inspired by punk and witty word play.

Elsewhere we deployed rhyming copy lines to succinctly communicate Arnolfini’s offering to a variety of audiences who use and enjoy the venue for vastly different reasons.

As a Bristolian, I truly love the campaign and I know I speak for the whole of Taxi Studio when I say how much of an honour it has been to work with the Arnolfini team and to promote this fantastic institution.

A huge thanks to Josh and all at Taxi Studio for their fantastic work on this project.
