This year’s BABE has moved from Arnolfini to UWE’s lovely campus at Bower Ashton (BS3 2JT) so they can expand the event with more talks and workshops. It’s going to be busy!

 

108 artists, collectives, small presses and independent publishers will be attending from all over the UK and Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Finland and Poland plus books arriving from Australia, Japan, Brazil, The Netherlands and the USA. UWE students and alumni will also be exhibiting on collective and individual tables over the weekend alongside.

Artist-led workshops taking place over the BABE weekend:

Saturday 23 April:
“King of the Rubber Stampers” Stephen Fowler will run a Saturday workshop for participants to create spirited Ghostcards multiples, marking World Book Night Ghosts in the Machine. All materials will be supplied. 11am to 2pm. Age 16+. Cost: £8, 15 places, book online here.

Sunday 24 April:
A Pop-up Card Workshop
for Children (8-12 years old) Led by Alex Czinczel / The Chinchilla. All materials will be supplied. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 11am to 12 midday. Cost: Free, 8 places, book online here.

Corinne Welch will be running ‘Make a flowery trouser book’ workshop for participants aged 12+. All materials will be supplied, but please bring along an apron/old shirt to protect clothes. 1pm to 2.30pm. Cost: Free, eight places, book online here.

Scandi Salon: Sunday 24 April, 1.30pm to 2.30pm
A walk around tour guided by Maria White – independent artists’ books specialist, meet the exhibitors from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Free, meet in the foyer by Costa Coffee.

Exhibitions:
World Book Night exhibition Ghosts in the Machine will be on show in the library (first floor), and Linda Parr will be showing the entire Postcards for Perec original artworks in their albums (room OC3).
