Join multi-award winning horticulturist and writer Jekka McVicar of The Modern Herbal Apothecary for a tour of Ballast Seed Garden.

Jekka McVicar is the owner of Jekka’s Herb Farm near Bristol. She is passionate about the use of and appreciation of herbs which has led her to form the RHS Herb Advisory Group which promotes the use, cultivation and interpretation of herbs in gardening, cooking and human wellbeing.  She is evangelical about people understanding and sharing the benefits of using herbs, particularly those living in an increasingly urbanized environment. Jekka will talk about the plants growing on the Ballast Seed Garden, how they have been used traditionally, their use today, and how the home gardener can grow and use fresh herbs.

Meet at Arnolfini Box Office.

Seeds of Change: Floating Ballast Seed Garden brochure is available from Arnolfini.

Located on Bristol’s historic harbour, just below Castle Park, the The Ballast Seed Garden was created by Maria Thereza Alves in June 2012. Constructed from a disused grain barge, the garden is populated with a variety of non-native plants, creating a living history of the city’s trade and maritime past.
