Encounters 2014 and Arnolfini present a new commissioned performance by Benedict Drew. It will take the form of a expanded lecture on the subject of rhythm, using stroboscopic video, the apparatus of theatre / concerts and a tension between the screen and live performance.
Benedict Drew is an artist who works across video, sculpture, music and their associated technologies. His work tests and reflects upon the relationships we have with technology and its oscillation between the exalted and the commonplace, between desire and redundancy. Recent solo exhibitions include The Onesie Cycle, Rhubarba, Edinburgh; Now Thing, Whitstable Biennale; This Is Feedback, Outpost, Norwich; Gliss, Cell Project Space; and The Persuaders, Circa Site / AV Festival, Newcastle. Benedict Drew is represented by Matt’s Gallery, London.
