Double Bill: Pirosmani (U) & Pastorale (ctbc)

Sun 12 Oct, 3.30pm & 5.15pm

Proud and lonely, Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani forsakes all security to paint, exchanging his work in city bars for food, drink and a bed. Beautifully shot in muted colours, it’s not often that an artist gets the film he deserves.

A group of musicians spend the summer rehearsing in a Georgian village. Pastorale explores what is truly valuable in human relationships when one cuts away the non-essentials. Iosseliani’s films show a characteristically Georgian style; focusing more on character and mood than narrative coherence.
