This screening brings together a collection of historical and contemporary moving image works (including those by Carsten Nicolai, Len Lye and John Stehura) and considers the evolving relationship between sound and image. The programme explores early experimental filmmaking and pioneering computer animation as well as contemporary artists interrogating the structural, imaginary and indexical possibilities of sound within the moving image.
Paul Purgas is a London based curator and electronic musician. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2004 and has since curated projects for Tate Britain, the De La Warr Pavilion, Spike Island, Bold Tendencies and Färgfabriken in Stockholm.
