A double bill celebrating Black Comedy genius.

Bristol programming collective Come the Revolution presents back to back double bills celebrating Black Comedy genius. Buddy Movies have been a vehicle for introducing Black comedy talent to mainstream cinema audiences. On the 19 January we continue to celebrate the cross over performer with the screening of Jumpin’ Jack Flash starring the eternally versatile Whoopi Goldberg, while Girls’ Trip toasts the no holds barred friendship between Black women rarely seen on a big screen.

Girls’ Trip (2017)
Directed by Malcolm D. Lee
Certification: 15
Runtime: 122 minutes

Old college friends Ryan, Sasha, Lisa and Dina are in for the adventure of a lifetime when they reunite to attend the annual Essence Festival in New Orleans. Along the way, they rekindle their sisterhood and rediscover their adventurous side by doing enough dancing, drinking and romancing to make the Big Easy blush. With an all star cast including Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Girls’ Trip became the star-making film for the hilarious comedienne Tiffany Haddish. This raucous comedy has an undeniable energy but is also warm-hearted and questions social norms and the veneers of respectability.

Jumpin’ Jack Flash (1986)
Directed by Penny Marshall
Certification: 15
Runtime: 100 minutes

Whoopi Goldberg stars as Terry Doolittle a computer operator at an international bank where she communicates with clients all over the world. Her boring routine is shattered when her computer collects the electronic pleas of Jack (Jonathan Pryce), a British spy trapped behind the Iron Curtain. After decoding the message, Terry becomes embroiled in an espionage ring and is soon enmeshed in international intrigue all while trying to save lives.

This screening is part of NO B/S! A film season that is part of Comedy Genius, a national celebration of comedy onscreen, led by BFI, the Independent Cinema Office and BFI Film Audience network, supported by funds from the National Lottery. #BFIComedy
