How do Frank Bowling’s paintings make you feel? Join us for a day of intimate and interactive events, inviting visitors to explore the artist’s work using your senses, imagination and memory, whilst making new connections.
How Do You Feel? has been devised by Gaylene Gould of The Space to Come in collaboration with dance theatre practitioner Raquel Meseguer, Arnolfini, and a range of artists, writers and guest speakers. This relaxed event has been designed to create new, accessible ways to explore visual art.
Feeling Tours and Conversations
Hosted by The Space to Come.
Our intimate tours and conversations have been designed to allow space and time to experience the work of pioneering painter Frank Bowling through your senses, memories and imagination. You will have the opportunity to experience the paintings in a quiet environment, prompted by playful invitations from our tour guides, before reflecting on your experiences with your fellow visitors. Afterwards you are invited to join us in our Reading Room to share your experiences with one of our friendly hosts (including artists, writers and colour-specialists) who will lead the conversation and helping you explore different ways of looking, sensing and feeling.
For all tours, if possible, please bring a device that can both play and record. Your mobile ‘phone will be fine.
Feeling Tour One
Guided by Gaylene Gould, The Space to Come.
11am to 11.45am tour, followed by a short break.
12pm to 12.40pm conversation in the Reading Room with Carinna Parraman, colour specialist and Director of the Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE.

Feeling Tour Two
2pm to 2.45pm tour, followed by a short break, guided by Gaylene Gould, The Space to Come.
3pm to 3.40pm conversation and writing workshop in the Reading Room led by multidisciplinary artist and writer Valda Jackson.

5pm to 5.40pm conversation in the Reading Room led by a Gaylene Gould and dance artist Raquel Meseguer.

Improvised Rest
Hosted by Raquel Meseguer.
Join us for an intimate evening event where visitors are welcomed in to the galleries to experience artist Frank Bowling’s paintings in a restful, relaxing environment either sitting, lying down, or resting as you wish, within the gallery. Visitors will be joined by musician Jamie McCarthy who will interpret different paintings through improvised responses, inspired by Bowling’s own improvisatory painting techniques. You are invited to explore and enjoy the artwork in a new way, whilst sharing in the experience of relaxing and resting together within a public space.
Yoga mats and bean bags will be provided or feel free to bring your own.
Session One
6.30pm to 7.30pm, £5, £3 concessions.

8pm to 9pm, £5, £3 concessions.
