The Imaginary Living Room is a collaborative project between creativeShift CIC, Bristol Photo Festival and Arnolfini exploring ideas of home during lockdown.

“Through the long winter of lockdown we spent most of our time in living rooms by ourselves, or homeschooling children, dreaming of the world outside, reflecting on life, change, the future, what we missed. “Barbara creativeShift CIC Director

During October 2020-April 2021, 13 adults from creativeShift CIC’s Wellbeing Arts programme attended regular zoom sessions with creativeShift CIC, Bristol Photo Festival and Arnolfini and were encouraged to be creative using materials found in the home.

All participants were provided with disposable cameras and had workshops related to A Picture of Health at Arnolfini and Bristol Photo Festival’s exhibition programme.

Everyone was encouraged to experiment, developing their photographic work with writing, collage, and narrative, resulting in this beautifully eclectic compilation which captures the reflections, dreams and hopes of participants during this long winter of lockdown.

Barbara from creativeShift CIC, Arnolfini and Bristol Photo Festival would like to thank the 13 people and their children whose imagination, inspiration, laughter, sharing and generosity in allowing their work to be included in Imaginary Living Room.

Carol, Ruth, Angela, Tara, Ausi, Laura Sue, Susannah, Joanna, Laura, Jenny, Clare, Krysia and Lizzy.

There is a huge selection of images that will be in the exhibition but, for those of you who are unable to come into Arnolfini, we offer you a taste of everyone’s contributions here…
