Inbetween Time
Festival of Live Art and Intrigue
Building on the success of Arnolfini’s 2001 festival, Inbetween Time 2003 presents over 70 artists, in 27 events, across 4 days in a heady mix of performance, installation, sound, intervention and debate. Bringing together emergent and established artists, new commissions and rarely performed works, the festival is a unique opportunity to engage with the full, vivid spectrum of live art.
“A jam-packed festival of experimentation and theatrical trickery, which subverts the familiar beyond recognition.” Isabel de Bertodano, The Times on Inbetween Time 2001

The programme premieres new works commissioned through Arnolfini’s pioneering Breathing Space scheme plus the latest selection of Method Lab/SW artists, alongside work by major British companies. Inbetween Time 2003 also launches Invisible Bodies, Arnolfini’s 18-month investigation into the 21st century body.

Following international touring to great acclaim 32000 Points of Light returns to Bristol in a motion simulator, combining sound, 3-D animation and motion programming in a unique, immersive journey into the sonic experience.

Daniel Belasco Rogers (Reckless Sleepers) creates a geography of experience – a lecture demonstration mapping the incidents and accidents that have forced his life into new directions.

Wendy McPhee & George Poonkhin Khut’s Nightshift explores the mythology of subliminal advertising in a ‘walk-in cinema of desire’.

Kira O’Reilly returns, one year later, to her work now embedded into the walls of Arnolfini’s smallest gallery. Commissioned as part of Invisible Bodies, Harvest 1 deliberates on a practice that is running beyond its skin.

Marisa Carnesky presents The Girl From Nowhere combining text, choreography, spectacle, magic, illusion, sound and documentary to conflate and explode the boundaries of time, geography and the body.

Forced Entertainment perform a 6-hour durational, story-telling marathon, And on the Thousandth Night.

Uninvited Guests perform an intimate version of Offline. In a small, carpeted room they experiment with what happens when explicit texts are spoken face-to-face with an audience.

Invisible Bodies Discussion Forum features contributions from Tracey Warr (Editor of The Artist’s Body); artist Aaron Williamson and curator/producer Fiona Winning (Director of Performance Space, Sydney).

The programme also features work by: Third Angel, ultr, Eve Dent, Pacitti Company, Oreet Ashery, La Ribot, Host Productions, Low Brow Trash, Qasim Riza Shaheen, Elaine Kordys, Tom Marshman, Yara El-sherbini, Stephen Hodge & Cathy Turner, Richard Biddle, Alex Bradley, Charlie Chicken, Johnny Goodwin. Special events include 10 minutes of noise terror in the back of the Merzbox and presentations hosted by New Work Network, Cube and Live Art Forum South West.
