Asian Arts Agency Presents an Evening of Inspiring Indian Music

Featuring K Sridhar & Durga Ramakrishnan

Join us for a spectacular evening featuring an array of artists from north and south India’s classical music traditions.

Special double bill concert, commissioned as part of Asian Arts Agency’s Breaking Barriers music series, this concert is a rare treat and promises to be inspiring, meditative and revitalising. The perfect way to let go and enter the weekend!

Evoking the ancient tradition of Hindustani and Carnatic music, the concert features two prominent artists based in South West of England. First half will feature a special Hindustani music set by acclaimed Stroud based sarod player K Sridhar, accompanied by Sanjay Jhalla on tabla. The second half will feature Carnatic music by Bristol based veena player Durga Ramakrishnan with RN Prakash on mridangam and Prathap Ramachandra on ghatam.

 

About the Artists

Sarod player K Sridhar is a rare master of both north and south Indian classical music traditions and belongs to 12 generations of musicians. Taught by ZM Dagar, Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan, Sridhar has toured internationally including several performances at WOMAD festival. He has recorded albums with Real World Records.

 

Veena player Durga Ramakrishnan was one of the leading artists on All India Radio and has performed at venues and festivals including St George’s Bristol and The Bath Music Festival.

 

RN Prakash and Prathap Ramachandra are leading percussionists in Carnatic music and have performed internationally.
