Arnolfini - est 1961

A field recording workshop on live curation and the everyday by Aaron James

This workshop has limited capacity. Please contact Arnolfini box office on 0117 917 2300 to reserve your place.

Taking part on the quayside outside Arnolfini, this workshop will help participants to become aware of their sonic environment in order to view the city as a disembodied gallery. Participants will create recordings using smartphones and explore conceptual techniques to reflect upon their findings. No experience necessary.

Aaron James

Aaron James is an artist, curator and researcher working across multiple platforms. His work is inspired by the interrelationships and convergence locations forge between artist and listener. In exploring the dynamic possibility of sound, he considers the different contexts art can be presented in, manipulating its presentation in unique sonic modalities, analysing the concepts, structures and forms through which these modes of exchange can expose the
immediacy of reception and thus entwine the roles of artist/audience through performance.

In 2015 Aaron’s work has developed to specifically consider the role of site-specificity, citation and the ready-made in music, culminating in invited performances at University of Falmouth, a paper presentation at University of Bristol entitled Live Curation: A Methodology Towards a New Platform for the Reception of Art and a commission residency with artist collective Tracing The Pathway to work alongside Professor Phil Smith where he created a body of
work and a paper entitled Mythogeography, Live Curation & the Everyday: Object Oriented Ontology Via a Sonic Sensibility.

Aaron has previously worked on projects with the Tate, Dolby and the British Computer Society, receiving press from the BBC, Guardian and Time Out.
