The Dream Director
The Dream Director, created by artist Luke Jerram, explores sleep as a creative location for artistic experience; a space where imagination is less constrained. Over the last six months Luke Jerram has been creating an installation that invites audiences to a collective sleepover during which their REM is detected. This triggers sounds which in turn affect and influence their dreams.
Two events provide an opportunity for audiences to experience The Dream Director for themselves, to influence its development and to hear more about the work and the ideas behind it.
Presentation & Discussion
Sat 21 July 2.00pm – 5.00pm
Luke Jerram presents The Dream Director and discusses its artistic and scientific aspects with Chris Alford, Sleep Psychologist at UWE and composer Dan Jones who have both been involved in the project’s development. In addition, a presentation by artist, curator and new Director of FACT Mike Stubbs, alongside filmmaker and researcher Gina Czarnecki, will respond to and discuss the work within a wider contemporary art context.
Sat 21 July / From 8.00pm
The evening begins with a film screening following which participants are invited to step into their allocated pods where they will sleep overnight at Arnolfini. They will be asked to write down their dreams before and after the event and provide feedback over breakfast (which will be provided!).
Places are limited. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis and there are basic criteria and information to be adhered to prior to obtaining tickets. For further information, please contact Arnolfini box office.
