“A woman surfaces within an interior landscape where she is both trapped and contained.” Each Saturday, the Still I Rise screening programme shares a work of video art or film that profiles themes of feminisms, gender, and resistance through the moving image.

From the depths of dream through the ‘thin veils of matter separating the outside from the inside’ where we are either seen or made invisible. Through rhythmic intercutting the film moves silently towards a point of confrontation with the outside world, shockingly emphasised by the films only sound.
Tanya Syed (b. 1967)
Studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College. Syed makes single screen and gallery based work and has collaborated with artists from performance, dance, theatre and music.
Her films have screened and toured extensively in the UK and internationally including the Whitechapel Art gallery 2000,1999, London, Turin Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, Italy 1996, and Electric Gallery of Moving Images Vancouver 95. Her work is distributed by the Lux and Cinenova. Syed was a Member of Executive/ Board of directors London Film Makers Co-op from 1992 to 1997 and the LFMC equal opportunities officer for the executive committee from 1994 to 1995.
