Cutting edge live electronica meets Punjabi folk – technology meets tradition: an exciting fusion receiving global acclaim. Presented by Encounters & Asian Arts Agency.

Mercury nominated DJ Swami’s live electronic drum machines, synthesizer arpeggios and basslines are layered with the powerful distinct rhythms and melodies of the Punjab, synchronised with John Minton’s visual projections of original digital animations and cinematic Punjabi imagery.

PunjabTronix is a cutting edge experience of technology and British electronic music connecting, exploring, improvising and conversing with the raw energetic DNA of Punjab – culminating in an exciting new musical and visual experience.

The performance will also feature special guest artist Sunil Kalyan, a master percussionist who has won Best Musician at the UK Asian Music Awards many times, and has worked with all the biggest names in Punjabi music, including Alaap and The Dhol Foundation.

PunjabTronix DJ/VJ set has performed at SXSW Music Festival, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and a private Guardian Live event in London. PunjabTronix has toured the UK and USA in 2017-18, with acclaimed shows at prestigious venues and festivals, including SXSW Music Festival, Kennedy Center Washington DC, Flushing Town Hall New York, The Sinclair Boston, Rich Mix London, Mac Birmingham, Arnolfini Bristol, Cambridge Junction and Norwich Arts Centre.

DJ Swami – since producing and co-writing the journey of Swami (So Who Am I?) has always explored the hybrid of diaspora identity, finding synergy and pushing the boundaries of British and Indian contemporary music to create exciting new musical milestones.

John Minton – Bristol-based filmmaker, John Minton, is known for his experimental, lo-fi and hallucinatory style. John’s distincitve flair has lent itself to the music videos and live visuals for Noel Gallagher, Portishead and Savages amongst others.
