FREE Talks, workshops and much more!
Join us for a day of special events in collaboration with Outside In.
Outside In provides a platform for artists who encounter barriers to the artworld due to health, disability, social circumstance and isolation.
Take part in a workshop exploring collecting, inspired by our exhibition, Elias Sime: Eregata እርጋታ, listen to artists’ talks and find out more about the charity.
Collecting: A creative workshop
11:30am- 1:30pm, second floor, Reading Room, Arnolfini.
Inspired by Elias Sime: Eregata, the session will be exploring the theme of collecting and how to make creative frottage prints from the technology that we collect unintentionally within our lives, such as broken laptops & mobile phones. Using wax crayons, graphite sticks, coloured pencils or soft pastels, different colours and layers can be applied to create abstract patterns, cityscapes, or portraits.
The workshop will be led by Outside In artist Brian Gibson. Brian Gibson is an artist and workshop facilitator based in Bath. He began as a self-taught photographer but his multidisciplinary approach to creativity spans photography, publishing, mixed media art and technology.
As a Step Up trained artist, an Arts Ambassador for the charity Outside In and a recipient of the 2022 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services, Brian is deeply committed to the arts community. His workshops aim to ignite others’ creative journeys, inspiring their artistic exploration. Notable recent projects include “Reworking Technology,” a broadsheet publication. Brian also holds residencies at The Studio BSU, Spike Island, and Pervasive Media Bristol.
The workshop is open to all and suitable for all ages and abilities. At the end of the session, there will be a chance to share your work and take home your very own artwork.
