The label of 2012 for many critics, PAN has rapidly risen to prominence at the centre of a musical community in which new lines of connection between avant garde experimentation and the dancefloor are being plotted.

Since its inception in 2008, Bill Kouligas’s label has established itself at the forefront of a moment in which the experimental tendencies always explored within the bass-heavy forms of dance music and those of ‘sound art’, noise and outsider music, have come ever closer into alignment. As a result, PAN was ever-present in the upper reaches of 2012 charts for FACT, Resident Advisor and others. But the label’s catalogue already suggests a wider agenda. Its focused eclecticism, underpinned by exemplary production values and a strong design aesthetic (developed by Kouligas and collaborator Kathryn Politis) across an impressive range of releases, takes in sound works of artists like James Hoff and Florian Hecker; the noise-aktion-performances of Joke Lanz and Rudolf Eb.er; the diasporic collage of cult French/nomadic vocalist Ghédalia Tazartès; long-form sythesised compositions from acclaimed performers like Keith Fullerton Whitman, Ben Vida, Thomas Ankersmit and Mark Durgan; Heatsick’s ecstatic casio-house jams; and artists associated with modernist music, improvisation and the British avant-garde, like Evan Parker and Trevor Wishart.

There will be an after show party, with djs Paul Purgas and Bill Kouligas (PAN) at The Looking Glass.
