IN BETWEEN TIME SUMMIT 2019 | Book a 20 minute slot to become a cast member in this one-on-one film performance in which you share a motorcycle ride through a contemporary Australian landscape.

Presented by Arnolfini and In Between Time as part of In Between Time Summit and the Still I Rise expanded programme:

On 15–16 December 2014 a lone gunman, held hostage ten customers and eight employees of a Lindt chocolate café in Sydney. Although the motivation of the gunman remained unclear, police treated the event as a terrorist attack resulting in a wave of anti Muslim sentiment across Australia. Forming a viral phenomenon, locals used the Twitter tag #illridewithyou to offer solidarity and an invitation to travel with them.

In The Ride, Aydemir cleverly turns this on its head inviting you to join her, and in doing so to co-create an incisive political act out of the simple, playful sharing of a motorcycle ride.

Cigdem Aydemir is a Sydney-based artist working in installation, performance and video art. Her socially and politically engaged art practice uses play, criticism and humour to create possibilities for communication. Much of her work explores the image of the veiled woman and lived experience.

The In Between Time Summit is the first three-day gathering of art, activism and conversation presented by In Between Time.

Presenting exceptional artists who are unafraid to take on the world’s most challenging questions, we occupy the city’s venues, walls and unusual spaces. Tearing down racism and Islamophobia, questioning the boundaries of gender, smashing the patriarchy.

For other In Between Time Summit events, please see their website.

Still I Rise: Feminisms, Gender, Resistance – Act 3 is a large-scale exhibition of international artists, highlighting the experiences of women and celebrating their triumphs – with an expanded programme of performances, screenings, workshops and talks filling Arnolfini through Autumn 2019.

Description of the image at the top of the page: Two people wearing sunglasses are sat on a motorbike, that appears to be driving through a deserted landscape. The figure holding the handlebars has a long black scarf that trails in the wind behind.
