This lecture brings together two significant performance theorists to explore the aesthetics of duration and the models of time through which performance has predominantly been interpreted. To mark the publication of Out of Now: The Lifeworks of Tehching Hsieh, Adrian Heathfield, Professor of Performance and Visual Culture at Roehampton University will present Walking Out of Life. He retraces one day of the long walk of Hsieh’s One Year Performance. Edward Scheer, President of Performance Studies International and Associate Professor, School of Theatre, Performance and Cultural Policy, University of Warwick uses material from Australian performance artist Mike Parr’s twelve intensely poetic, durational events in which he appeared as a surreal bridal figure, and Bloodbox in which Parr remained in a glass container for 24 hours.
