FLY! Festival of Black Women’s Theatre | Somali Women Speak share their moving, unforgettable avowal War Wounds – produced by Rissa Mohabir.

FLY! Festival of Black Women’s Theatre is honoured to welcome Somali Women Speak to share their moving, unforgettable avowal  War Wounds.

Reading excerpts from their collection Under The Shade Of The Tree, and sharing films documenting their experiences, Somali Women Speak open our eyes to the horror of war ,revealing hidden narratives tucked away in our community.

Women get wounded in war. Children get wounded in war. Men get wounded in war. And the wounds are scorched into the body, seared into the mind. They are often hidden from shame and embarrassment. But the pain and trauma remain.

Of course, here in Britain, we expect the refugee community to have recovered and moved on. We are unwilling to face up to the uncomfortable truth. Because where does that leave us all?

Note:  Contains references to violence and the trauma of war.

FLY! Festival of Black Women’s Theatre is proudly supported by Arnolfini.
