The Birdman Of Alkijazz
Special guest Matthew Bourne
Sun 25 Feb 8.00pm
£8.00/£6.00 concs – Ticket holders entitled to a free southern comfort mixer from the bar
This second improvisational jazz battle sees the Birdman of Alkijazz (musician Tony Orrell) take on Perrier Award winning pianist Matthew Bourne in an accompaniment to Japanese silent masterpiece A Page of Madness (15). In this avant-garde classic, director Kinugasa uses an incredible battery of visual distortions and stylistic quirks to present the world of a mental asylum from the perspective of those on the inside, telling a strong and poignant human story that still retains its power today. At the end of the match there will be an informal jamming session.
Dir: Teinosuke Kinugasa Japan 1926 58 mins
