Daryl Shute (Magic Light Pictures) and Liz Keynes discuss how The Gruffalo developed from book to screen, along with a screening of one of the half hour Gruffalo specials.

The Gruffalo started life in 1999 as a children’s book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Sheffler. The book has sold in excess of ten million copies, won numerous awards and developed into a hugely successful worldwide phenomenon.

A major part of the more recent success is due to two half hour animation specials produced by Magic Light Pictures in London and animated at Studio Soi in Germany. The multi-award winning productions have authentically and beautifully brought the story and characters to life on screen, and a whole range of licensed products have been developed alongside.

Encounters is delighted to welcome Daryl Shute, Associate Producer and Brand Director at Magic Light Pictures, and Liz Keynes one of the UK’s leading experts in children’s and family licensing to discuss how The Gruffalo developed from book to screen and how the intellectual property has been so successfully utilised.

The event will commence with a rare treat to see one of the half hour specials on the big screen.
