Gary Embury, senior lecturer BA (Hons) Illustration at UWE Bristol discusses Contemporary Reportage and Documentary drawing practice and its relevancy as a source of news reporting.

Reportage drawing is a valuable interpreter of contemporary events and offers a perspective different to the dramatic spectacles of photojournalism.

In the age of the digitally mediated image and 24 hour rolling news reporting, can reportage artists continue to contribute to our perceptions of social, political issues, war and conflict? 

About Gary Embury

Gary Embury is a senior lecturer at UWE Bristol, on the BA (Hons) Illustration course. Currently involved in a number of reportage drawing projects, he co-delivers the reportage drawing programme at The Topolski Studio in London and is editor in chief of Reportager.org an online journal showcasing and initiating projects in the area of drawn reportage. In 2014 he chaired ‘Witness’ the Documentary and Reportage forum at Falmouth University. In 2015 he initiated and curated the first reportage drawing award and currently is completing a book on reportage drawing for Bloomsbury Publishing.

Free for UWE staff and students with ID.  Tickets can be collected in person from Arnolfini Box Office from 11am on the day of the event.
