Janacek’s “From the House of the Dead”.

This opera, written by the same composer as “The Cunning Little Vixen”, will conclude WNOs enormously successful Janacek cycle. Dr John Tyrell lecturer in music at Nottingham University, will discuss the origins of what many view as Janacek’s greatest opera, based on Dostoyevsky’s memories of his own time in a Siberian prison in the 1850s. Tyrell’s talk is illustrated with extracts from the opera performed by company singers.
