#ArnolfiniThreads

Please donate now to help us transform Arnolfini into a living, breathing textile studio.

This summer, we are working with renowned textile artist Alice Kettle to create an inspiring exhibition: Threads, featuring work by over 20 international artists who work with textiles, including: Anya Paintsil, Yinka Shonibare, Ibrahim Mahama, Farwa Moledina, Raisa Kabir, Lubaina Himid and Young In Hong.

We need to raise £20,000 in full to deliver an ambitious engagement programme, to bring Threads to life for as many members of the community as possible. We want to celebrate textiles as an art form that can create important connections across cultures.

Alice Kettle stands in her studio space holding the corner of one her large-scale textile works which drapes over a table in front of her. The surface of the work is complex and textured with colours including yellow blue and red. Behind her, a number of sketches are pinned to a wall.

Anya Paintsil’s artwork God Will Punish Him, a hand hooked large scale textile piece made using traditional rug fabrication techniques, depicting an adult with long loose hair holding a child in one arm, the other arm raised forwards – a bright blue tear falling from their eye matches the blue of their nails.

Our resident Women’s Craft Club will invite women from refugee and asylum communities to work with exhibiting artists and share their traditions and skills with visitors.

Celia Pym will bring her Mending Project to Arnolfini, exploring the visible mending and repair of textiles that carry personal stories and memories.

Farwa Moledina will create a Majlis – a sitting room for social gatherings filled with bespoke textile patterns and cushions, where you are all welcome to join us.

Please help Arnolfini to create a new community of makers, forming new memories, and telling new stories about the lives we live, through textiles. Help us to bring thousands of people together to find common threads.
