Across 2022 to 2023 Arnolfini and UWE Bristol are producing a public art and nature project with artists Juneau Projects (Philip Duckworth and Ben Sadler), taking place in and around the university’s Frenchay campus, exploring local nature and creating a series of sculptures inspired by mosses, lichens and other overlooked but vital plants. In Autumn 2022, Phil and Ben invited local communities and schools, staff and students to join them for Bryophyte Club workshops to help design the public artwork.

Now, throughout Spring 2023, we’re inviting you to have a hand in the next stage of creation. At our newly opened Making Space at Frenchay campus, we’re running a series of free spring sculpture making sessions to building the large-scale sculptures from clay, which will be case in bronze or fired in a brick kiln. The sculptures will be located in a garden area of a new student accommodation village on the campus, also to be used as a community space for people living and working in the area. The sculpture garden will become a place for students, staff and local residents alike to sit, rest, meet and enjoy for years to come.
